Dear Parents,

Winter is upon us! We know physical activity and healthy eating can sometimes feel difficult to maintain during the cold months, but there are simple ways to incorporate physical activity and nutritious recipes to keep your family healthy.

Healthy Winter Snacks

Banana Snowmen 

Ingredients – 2 bananas, – 1/4 of a carrot, – handful of raisins, – 3 strawberries, – 6 grapes, – 6 skewers

Instructions:

1. Cut the bananas into thick slices (approx. 9 rounds per banana). 2. Peel the carrot and cut into small triangle slivers for the snowman’s nose. 3. Trim the stem from the strawberries and cut in half and cut the grapes in half.

Assembly

1. Thread three slices of banana on each skewer, followed by a strawberry hat and a grape half. 2. Gently press the raisins into the banana slices to create eyes and the buttons on the body. 3. Then, add the carrot nose.

Fast Break Hummus

Ingredients: – 3 garlic cloves, minced, – 1/4 cup low-fat yogurt, – 1 tablespoon lemon juice, – 1 teaspoon olive oil, – 1/4 teaspoon salt, – 1/4 teaspoon paprika, – 1/8 teaspoon pepper, – 1 can chickpeas, rinsed, – 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Instructions

1. Combine ingredients in blender or food processor and process until smooth. 2. Chill for one hour. 3. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil and sprinkle paprika for garnishing just before serving. 4. Serve with raw vegetables.
