Blessings In A Backpack Is Starting Again

Good afternoon,

We will be starting our partnership again with Blessings In A Backpack starting this Friday.

Blessings in a Backpack – Dearborn is a longstanding non-profit program created to feed elementary school children in Dearborn, Michigan who may not have stable access to food on weekends. In Dearborn Public Schools, over 15,000 children meet the financial qualifications for the Free and Reduced Price Meal Program. Blessings in a Backpack – Dearborn aims to fill the gap on weekends, when students do not have access to that meal program. On each of 38 weekends during the school year, we provide children with a bag of easy-to-prepare, shelf-staple food. The program currently feeds over 200 children at Long, McDonald, Nowlin, River Oaks, Whitmore-Bolles and William Ford Elementary Schools, in coordination with each school’s faculty. We believe that helping students arrive at school on Monday well-fed positively impacts test scores, reading skills, attendance, behavior, health and happiness.

The program is designed to provide non-perishable food every Friday to children that would benefit from supplemental nourishment over the weekend. The program run the full 38-week school year and there is no cost to participate. If you wish for your child to participate in the program please contact the main office. Once the program is implemented, your child will receive a bag of non-perishable food every Friday which will be distributed in a discreet and caring manner.
