Nowlin

Learning Labs

Good afternoon,

Starting Monday (10/5), we will begin our in person learning labs. This means that teachers will start bringing in up to three students at a time to work in small groups. This will primarily happen in the afternoon after specials (art, music, pe). Up until this time, we have either been teaching solely on line or bringing students in for small group assessments.

This next step is a move in the positive direction for going back to in person instruction. I would consider this a toe in the water situation. As long as COVID numbers continue to decline within the city, the plan will continue to evolve in a forward motion.

Learning labs are in-person at Nowlin where your student(s) will be allowed to attend on a scheduled basis to receive academic assistance and/or social emotional support. A staff member is present with your child at all times. The number of students in a classroom is limited to 3 or lower depending on classroom size.

The purpose of the learning lab will be to support their remote instruction not replace it. Our goal is to begin learning labs the week of October 5th. It is possible your child could attend a learning lab 2-5 days a week for anywhere from 1-4 hours a day. This will depend on the need and will vary for each student and class.

For learning labs the following measures have been taken to ensure the safety and health of students and staff:

  • Staggered entrances
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff and students
  • High touch point areas will be cleaned and sanitized between learning groups

In the coming days your child’s teacher will communicate specifically the time and days the learning lab will be available for your child.

Thank you for working with us during these unique times. We could not have gotten as far as we have without your support. As I stated previously, hopefully this is a step in the right direction and COVID numbers continue to remain low within the city. We remain hopeful.

Lastly, this does not replace online learning at this time. Your student is still expected to log onto their Schoology class first thing each morning.
